Hey, I’m Ethan Bellweather.

Born and bred in Chicago. Yep, the architecture capital. I’ve been hooked on buildings since I was a kid. How light hits them? Amazing. The stories they tell? Even better. Growing up here made me who I am. And yeah, I’m probably a little too into deep-dish pizza.

I went to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for my Bachelor’s in Architecture. Then, I grabbed a Master’s in Sustainable Design from IIT. I always felt like I needed to create spaces that weren’t just pretty. They had to do good, too. You know?

After school, I spent seven years at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). Dream come true! High-rises? Check. Breathing new life into old buildings? Double-check. I even became a licensed architect (AIA).

But something was missing.

I wanted to connect with people directly. And I wanted to try out some wild ideas.

So, I jumped.

I started my own firm: Bellweather Design Studio. We focus on homes and small businesses. The goal? Sustainable, human-centered design.

My approach is simple. At least, it sounds simple:

  • Listen to clients.
  • Listen to the site.
  • Listen to the environment.

Architecture shouldn’t be about forcing a vision. It’s about finding what’s already there.

I believe in teamwork. Clients, builders, everyone. We all work together to make something unique. Something that fits.

Sustainability? Not just a trend for me. It’s everything. I’m a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP BD+C). I’m always looking for the newest green tech. Solar design, rainwater, recycled materials…the works.

Is it easy? Nope. Budgets, codes… But it’s worth it.

When I’m not doing architecture, I’m out exploring Chicago’s art scene. Or biking. Or messing with my old records. I’m a sucker for jazz and a good cocktail.

I want to share my love for architecture with you. Give you ideas, tips, whatever. Whether you’re a pro or just curious.

I promise to give you solid info. And I’m always open to feedback.

I really believe architecture can change lives. And I’m honored to be part of it.
